Fun facts
By age 6, kids can usually hear a short set of directions and “hold them in their head” long enough to act on them. (“Brush your teeth, put on socks, and meet me in the car.”)
They’re better at tuning in to a teacher’s voice in a busy classroom — though background chatter can still be a challenge.
Six year olds are getting stronger at noticing differences in speech sounds (like bat vs. pat), which helps with early reading skills.
They don’t just hear — they ask questions, clarify, or repeat back what they understood, showing that they’re processing what was said.
